My goal about this lesson is to train new ministers on how to minister to others. The modern minister faces a multitude of tasks that are both exciting and exacting. He must conduct funerals and weddings, he must be a scholar, a public speaker, an educator, a financier, a CEO, a personnel manager, a shepherd and a personal counselor.

When I became a minister at 17 years of age, I soon found myself confronted with many things I had seen and even been a part of in my home church, but to which I paid little attention until I was called on to do them myself. In the next 40 years I have ministered to Churches of all sizes, when I became a pastor I would ask young ministers to assist me in funerals, weddings, and baptisms, so they could learn firsthand what to do.

What you will learn are some of the things I tried to teach them. I offer this now to other young ministers as a guide and an example.

Today I am in constant contact with young people who are beginning where I began 40 years ago. It is for them and other like them that I offer this training. What you will learn is simply my way of preaching, baptizing, administering the Lord's Supper, doing weddings and funerals, if what I teach you is of help, then I have accomplished my purpose.

For the most part, our minds, bodies and spirits are treated in these 3-parts. And for this reason, most people just aren't aware of how important it is to be cared for as a whole being or to care for themselves from a whole person perspective. Your health is an asset, a resource for living life, and living it well. The healthier you are, the better you can use the gifts and talents that God has given you to make a difference in the world.

Because your spiritual health is vital and that your emotional, mental, relational and physical health are directly linked to your spiritual health, S.D.H.H.M. is motivated to share God's design for whole person health with you and with others. Those who realize that we are, at our core, spiritual beings, would recognize this as the spirit-mind-body connection.

God has given you a spirit with a primary function of communing with him, of being in a relationship with him. He wants this more than anything else. Q. What is the difference between Basic and Advanced studies?

A. Some of the Advanced studies are longer and require more reading and insight than the Basic studies. However both of them are in a booklet form with fill in the blank questions. Most answers are found in the Bible. The Basic Set is a compilation of study booklets and primarily consists of New Testament studies with a few from the Old Testament added. The advanced set covers the majority of the Old Testament; also several topical studies are included.

Q. Do I have to start with the Basic studies?

A. Yes. It is recommended that you begin with the Introductory study #1 and continue with the Basic studies before moving on to the Advanced studies. Completion of the Basic studies first will provide the student with a better foundation for further study.

Q. What is the Introductory study like?

A. The Introductory study; It is shorter in length, easier to finish and it has questions relating to personal salvation.

Q. Where do I send my study for correction when it is completed?

A. Until the program is put on our website, you must mail in the studies to be graded and then sent back to you. Please allow 1-2 weeks for delivery.
