About Us
Many lifestyle-related health issues that people struggle with are rooted in their physical and spiritual conditions. So in general, the medical community helps care for the body, the behavioral health community cares for the mind and emotions, and the faith community cares for the spirit of a person. For the most part, our minds, bodies and spirits are treated in these 3-parts. And for this reason, most people just aren't aware of how important it is to be cared for as a whole being or to care for themselves from a whole person perspective. Your health is an asset, a resource for living life, and living it well. The healthier you are, the better you can use the gifts and talents that God has given you to make a difference in the world.
Because your spiritual health is vital and that your emotional, mental, relational and physical health are directly linked to your spiritual health, S.D.H.H.M. is motivated to share God's design for whole person health with you and with others. This is why Faith and Health has a connection. These concepts related to spirit, mind, and body health, from a biblical and medical perspective.
Since God designed you in such a way that your spirit, mind and body are inextricably interwoven. When one aspect of your being is not well, it impacts on all other aspects of who you are. The medical and health profession generally refer to this as the mind-body connection. Those who realize that we are, at our core, spiritual beings, would recognize this as the spirit-mind-body connection.
God has given you a spirit with a primary function of communing with him, of being in a relationship with him. He wants this more than anything else. This is why, in the Bible, his greatest desire or commandment for us is 'to love him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.' 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' Matthew 22:37
S.D.H.H.M. is an empowering ministry for congregations seeking to build wholistic health.
